Our Service to Candidates

Seltek is a small company with a big reputation in the niche markets we work in: science and biotechnology sales and marketing, and clinical research. We take pride in being known as cheerful and positive people who place great importance on treating everyone the same way: with courtesy, respect and 100% enthusiasm. If, in your dealings with us, we fall short of this goal, please let us know. First and foremost, our service is completely free to candidates. It is also completely confidential. The information you give us will be entirely secure, and we will not forward your details to anyone without your knowledge and permission, unless you have allowed us to do so.The services we provide to candidates include:Strategic career counselling
Our highly trained professional consultants are well equipped to advise you on the career opportunities that are open to you. They are all familiar with the types of working environments that our candidates inhabit: commerce, laboratory, research, administration, government and so on. They are also fully au fait with the range of openings that exist in the scientific and medical market place, and the skills and characteristics that recruiting managers within those markets require.
You can expect your consultant to be honest and forthright. Whilst we will be encouraging and positive as far as possible, we will not be afraid to tell you if your hopes and ambitions are unrealistic. We will let you know where you stand.

F.S. (Manchester)
Although I have only been with my new company for a week I know that it was the right move to make. I am enjoying it already. Thank you again for helping me find a new position so quickly after being made redundant. You were very helpful and always had good advice for me. If I ever need (hopefully not) to look for another sales position Seltek will be the first recruitment company I shall ring.

Personality assessment
We are not trained psychologists, but we do spend all day, every day talking to people like you - people who are considering a career change. So we have a reasonable understanding of what makes people tick, and how to advise them accordingly. We offer aids on our website (you'll need to login) to help you analyse what you are really looking for in a new job, and a link to a professional personality profiling company to help you understand your own strengths and weaknesses, and how to cope with specific interview questions.

N.S. (Oldham)
I'm extremely busy and I'm working on some excellent prospects. I love this job and I can't believe I didn't consider sales earlier in my career.

Assistance with C.V. preparation
Once you've decided that we can help you, the next step will be to prepare an effective C.V. Whilst our recommendation carries a lot of weight with many employers, your C.V. is still the key that will unlock the door to interviews. You can gain advice on this from our website, and we will be happy to advise you on specific detail, and how to adapt your C.V. according to the job you are applying to.
If you do not have a C.V. or have not got the time to prepare one, we will be happy to prepare one for you, based on the notes we take during our in-depth interview.

L.S. (Glasgow)
Dear Diane - A big thank you for finding me the position at ****. You have worked very hard on me and I'm very grateful.

Interviews arranged
We do our utmost to help every candidate who registers with us to find a job, but realistically we cannot succeed in this goal. However, once you have registered with us, your details will be held here indefinitely (unless you tell us to destroy your records) and our consultants will match you to suitable jobs as and when they arise. Every job we take on is posted on our website and you can bookmark the site on your PC and contact us if you see a job that interests you.
In certain cases - typically candidates with strong skills and experience within the fields we are familiar with - we will conduct a targeted marketing campaign. With the candidate, we will compile a list of 'target companies' that the candidate would like to work for, and then we will call those companies at the highest appropriate level, to try to persuade the employer to create an opportunity for the candidate, if they do not have such an opening already. At the very least, we guarantee to tell the candidate the result of each and every call.

C.M. (Scotland)
I have dealt with a number of recruitment consultants within a number of different recruitment agencies, and I can comfortably say that the level of service I received far exceeds that which I have received anywhere else.

Interview advice and training
You only get one chance to make a first impression! Once we have arranged an interview for you, we will do everything we can to ensure that it goes well. We will help you gather information about the company and the interviewer, we will advise you on interview techniques - including (if necessary) personal training on interview style and tactics. As above, we will pull no punches, and we will tell you things you need to know, to help you succeed.
It is standard practice for us to find out exactly what questions will be asked at interview, and what answers will be expected. In short, all you'll be required to do, is turn up and play your part as best you can. We'll choreograph the play!
Much of our interview advice is freely available on this website.

P.D. (Cumbria)
Yet again I feel indebted to you, for without your advice and guidance I genuinely think I would not have got this job. You have certainly helped me to gain a real insight into the sales rôle and helped me to realize it is a sound opportunity for me - for that you have my sincere thanks.

Support with salary negotiation and resignation practice
After you've won the coveted offer, what is regarded by many as the most stressful part of the whole procedure, is about to begin. Firstly, we will help you to negotiate the best possible offer from your new potential employer. Some people prefer to do this themselves, but we are highly skilled negotiators, and if there are some differences to be ironed out, it's often better to leave it to a middle man. That way, once the deal has been struck, you can look your new colleagues in the eye, without any ill feelings.
Similarly, when it comes to resignation, we are the experts! For most people, resignation from a job is something they only do a few times in their lives. For us, it's a daily occurrence - not resigning personally of course, but helping candidates through this difficult process.

H.L. (London)
Dear Everyone at Seltek, just a little card to tell you how thankful I am for all your help. I'm looking at a bright future thanks to you. I couldn't have done it without you.

Ongoing help
Our help doesn't stop when we've found you a job (or when you've found yourself a job). We will remain on hand to advise you at every stage in your career. Even if we have no personal interest in your proposed changes, we will still be happy to give you our opinion, and make helpful suggestions. Our profoundly held belief, is that everything that goes around, comes around.
When we have placed people in jobs, our follow-up is more specific: we will call you (if appropriate) after one day, one week, one month and every three months during the first year. Thereafter you can expect a call from us every six months or so, to confirm that you are happy in your work, and to help and advise if you are not.

M.M. (Oxford)
My dear Guy, The whole family thanks you for your help in improving our lives. We truly wish you the very best in your own life.
